NORTH CONWAY, NH â Joan "Joanie" Galbraith, 76, passed away on April 19, 2020. She was born in Boston, MA on April 24, 1943, and was the daughter of Howard Joseph Galbraith and Edna Kirby Galbraith. Her family moved to North Conway in 1948, where she attended the local schools and later graduated from the Cambridge School of Business in Boston, MA. She was employed at the Home Office of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. for several years before returning to New Hampshire.
Joanie worked in several local businesses, including the White Mountain National Bank, Carroll Reed Ski Shops, Inc. and Northern NH Mental Health and Developmental Services. She loved New Hampshire, from its White Mountains to its Seacoast.
Some of Joanie's favorite past-times were gardening, swimming, cross-country skiing, ice-skating and writing. Earlier, she had become a member of the American Astrologers Association and pursued the art of chart interpretations for local friends, family and pets. Joanie had a deep love for animals and gave many homeless cats a home throughout her life.
She is survived by her brother, John and wife Sussanne, together with a niece, Katherine Lee and her husband, Bill and family, nephew, Jim and his wife Colleen and family and nephew, Robert, all of Enfield, CT.
Two quotations which helped guide Joanie throughout her life were taken from two sources: Shakespeare's Hamlet; "To thine own self be true", and Prov. 3:5 KJV, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."
