Joan, 69, of Lyman, NH and previously from Cumberland, RI, passed away on her favorite holiday, October 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with non-Hodgekins Lymphoma with her husband, Michael Letellier and her beloved dog, Elizabeth by her side.
Born in Providence, RI on August 14, 1956, along with her twin, John to their parents the late Patricia and Lloyd Bateman. Joan was known for her love, kindness, spunk, a little mischief, being the best friend anyone could have in their life, loyalty, and her deep love for animals, especially boxers. Before she left us, she said she was going to stop at the rainbow bridge and pick up her fur-babies: Vinny, Howie, Archie, Dozer, Hannah, Buzzbee, and Lucy and take them with her on her journey.
Joan graduated from Cumberland High School where she met her friend’s twins, Cheryl and Carol, that turned into a special sisterhood that Joan embraced and cherished. She went on to be a bartender, CAN, and a medical technician for the VA Hospital in Rhode Island before moving to New Hampshire to enjoy the rest of her days.
She loved being in New Hampshire and proudly redesigned and rebuilt a home with her husband, Mike in Lyman, where the door was always open to stay with them and share in the love of the area. Joan loved the deer and other animals that would frequent her yard daily. She also found joy in the simple pleasure of watching her soap operas and home shows with a fur-baby by her side. She loved the community and friends she made in NH that checked in with her daily. She enjoyed riding through winding roads, fireworks, and adventures with her beloved husband.
Those who knew Joan will remember her for her positive outlook and strength. Joan had special bonds she would make with everyone she crossed paths with. She had the ability to find any unwrapped Christmas present, Easter basket, or hidden dessert before anyone else.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Michael Letellier of Lyman, NH; her sister, Ann Bateman of Johnston, RI; her twin brother, John Bateman and wife Tukta of North Smithfield, RI; her nieces, Amy Porter and her loving companion, Joseph Barbieri of Johnston, RI, Mint Moore and her husband, Deion of Hanover, MA, Kaelyn Grace Porter and her partner Dylan of Johnston, RI, Haley Porter-Kotska and her partner Anthony of Lincoln, RI; her nephews: Dustin and Zairy Porter of Brownsfield, TX. She is also survived by her step-children, Kerri Letellier and her partner David, Kristen Perez and her partner Mike, Randy Letellier, Lauren Letellier and Damian.
Services are to be held privately at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hotel for Homeless Dogs in Joan’s memory: https://thehotelforhomelessdogs.com/donate-now/.
