Joan C. (Plante) Lowther, 77, of Davenport, FL, died Sept. 18, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Center Conway, NH after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mae (Grady) Plante. Joan spent many a summer day at her family's restaurant, Plante's Pavilion, on Horseneck Beach, Westport, MA. She was the wife of the late William H. Lowther Jr. After raising their 4 children in New Bedford, MA, Joan and her husband lived at the 'whale shack' on East Beach Rd. in Westport until 1992, when they moved to Davenport, FL. Joan loved clambakes on the beach, making seashell crafts, gardening and traveling the country with her family. She was best known for her video "Footprints in the Sand" which airs on Westport cable television periodically. Survivors include daughters Carol A. Curley of Orlando, FL and Debbie A. Savary of Center Conway, NH, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her twin sons William H. Lowther III and David M. Lowther. A service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Potter's Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd, Westport, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNS and Hospice Care Services of Northern Carroll County, PO Box 432, North Conway, NH 03860.
