JoAnne Bowles Fowler

JoAnne Bowles Fowler, 87, of Derry, New Hampshire, died after a long period of declining health. She was born on November 27, 1926, in Evans Mills , New York, to the late Carlton Bowles and Bernice Wood Bowles. She graduated from Evans Mills High School and secured a job as a secretary, at an abstract and title office, in Watertown, N.Y. She was sent on temporary assignment to work as a secretary, at Fort Drum, N.Y., where she met a handsome, smart, and somewhat brash young army officer, Paul Ives Fowler, who dared to put his boots up on her desk, an act for which he was summarily scolded! Despite this precarious first encounter, the two were wed and so began her life as the wife of an Army officer, wherein Paul's military assignments kept her and her family of three boys moving to a variety of locales to include Virginia, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and abroad to Germany. While in Germany, she learned to play bridge, a pastime which she would enjoy for most of her adult life, particularly upon moving to Derry, upon Paul's retirement from the Army.

JoAnne was known for her love for her children and grandchildren, her quick wit, her love of Fox News, her affection for colorful and stylish dress, and her passion for jewelry! Close family called her "Gigi", a name given to her by her grandson, Alexander, as she was the "Glitter Grammy"!

Jo Anne was predeceased by her husband, the late Paul Ives Fowler. She is survived by three sons: Nicholas Fowler and wife, Dawna Fowler of Manchester, N.H.; Christopher Fowler and wife, Patricia Fowler of Derry, N.H. and Matthew Fowler and wife, Lorraine Fowler of Park City, Utah.

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Shaunna Jackson and husband, Tyler Jackson of Auburn, N.H.; Alysia Fowler of Manchester, N.H.; and Alexander Fowler of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Christian Reed of Manchester, N.H.;
Sawyer Jackson and Evan Jackson of Auburn, N.H. She is also survived by her sister, Lynne Martin of Largo, Fla., as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be no local services or calling hours. Following cremation, JoAnne will be inurned, at a later date, at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., alongside her husband, Major Paul Ives Fowler.
