Joel C. DiTrolio, 63, of Hollis, New Hampshire died peacefully on July 23, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Joel spent nearly 40 years working in healthcare finance and most recently at Covenant Health Systems in Lexington, MA where he was the Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to that, Joel spent many years working at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua as well as at various hospitals in New Jersey and Vermont. Joel was active in many aspects of health care and served on the boards of other institutions as a financial advisor including the committee to establish Marguerite's Place in Nashua. In his free time, Joel enjoyed creating and running HO model trains, a hobby he began as a young boy. During the last 10 years, Joel spent endless hours re-creating an exact HO scale model of the Rutland Railroad from Bellows Falls to Rutland, VT, during the 1950s. Beginning in 2004, he gathered a group of like-minded hobbyists and ran regular operating sessions, and his layout was eventually included in the Annual Tour de Chooch. He also served as secretary to the Seacoast Division of the Model Railroad Association. Just prior to his passing, a national magazine, Model Railroader, photographed his layout for possible inclusion in one of their issues. Joel was born on May 17, 1946, in Newark, NJ, to Joseph and Amalia (Meo) DiTrolio, both deceased. He was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas DiTrolio. Joel was educated in East Orange schools and graduated from Rutgers University in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration. He continued his education at Rivier College completing a Master of Business Administration degree in 1982. Joel leaves his beloved wife, Rita (Tuno) DiTrolio, to whom he was married for 42 years, sons, Matthew of Hollis and Michael of Greensboro, NC. In addition, he leaves his daughter-in-law Heather and two grandchildren, Alexander and Amalia. Joel also leaves many friends, but in particular The Sisters of Charity, The Grey Nuns of Montreal, with whom and for whom he worked for many years, and for whom he had great affection. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at St. John Neumann Church, 708 Milford Road in Merrimack. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the American Cancer Society 2 Commerce Drive, Suite 110 Bedford, NH 03110.
