Joel C. Grindle, 48, of Nashua died August 18, 2005 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack following a courageous battle with cancer. Joel was born on September 4, 1956 in Bangor, Maine the son of Stanley Grindle and Marylin (Buck) Miller. Prior to his illness, he had been employed as a software engineer at BTU International in North Billerica, Massachusetts for 1 year. He previously held engineering positions at Daymarc in Littleton, Massachusetts, ITP, FerroFluidics and Hollis Automation. Joel lived most of his life in and around the Nashua area. A well-known, local musician, Joel played electric bass guitar with several area bands, most recently performing with Soul Seduction. Joel also played acoustic guitar and in recent years, took up playing a stand up acoustic bass. An exercise and adventure enthusiast, Joel enjoyed mountain and road biking, kayaking, tennis, rollerblading, running, skiing and skydiving. Joel was a warm and tender father, and cherished spending time with his proudest accomplishment, his daughter Taylor. His interests were varied and included his great love of music, photography, web programming, drawing, cooking, science and reading. Joel loved to travel and especially enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean. Joel had an insatiable zest for life and learning. Joel will be greatly missed by his many friends and loving family. Family members include; his wife of 9 months, Danielle (Twining) Grindle; daughter, Taylor; and stepdaughter, Andrea Martel; his sisters, Karen Grindle of Pownal, ME and Jackie Manton of Brunswick, ME; his brothers Blaine, Tim and Brian, all of Pownal, ME and Allen of Ravena, NY; and his longtime family friend, Teresa Raimondi of Pownal, ME; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Joel is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Kathy Grindle. There will be a Celebration of Joel's life on Friday, August 26th at 2:00 PM at the First Parish Church Congregational, 40 Main Street in Freeport, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations made may be made to the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.
