John Chagnon

John Chagnon, 92, of Nashua died August 5th 2021 at Greenbriar Terrace Care Facility in Nashua, NH.

John was born May 29th 1929 in Manchester, NH to the late John Joseph Chagnon and Lea (Vigneault) Chagnon and was also predeceased by his wife Rachel of 57 years, a brother Edmond Chagnon and a grandson Jason Gray.

He lived in Manchester through high school graduation and eventually made his home in Nashua.

In his early years he was a milkman, a salesman, and then ended up retiring from Continental Homes as an inspector. After retirement he drove cars for Merchant motors. In his spare time he loved metal detecting, building bird houses and cat houses and scratch posts. In his later years he enjoyed going to the mall and talking to people and telling stories to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Freitas; son-in-law, Joseph Freitas; sister, Clara Rattee; a brother Regis Chagnon and partner Kay Skilogiain; a grandson, Jon R. Gray and wife Diane; three great-grand children Megan, Caitlin and lucas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Peter Debelis who was a great help at his end of life with errands and kindness. He is predeceased by his wife Rachel of 57 years, a brother Edmond Chagnon and a grandson Jason Gray.

SERVICES: a Gathering will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 from 11AM - 1PM in the Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester with a Burial taking place at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery.
