John K. Edwards, 85, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2023. He is survived by his wife Joyce, of nearly 63 years. He leaves his three children, Heidi, Eric and Jill as well as his son-in-law Tom, daughter-in-law Judy, ten grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He also leaves his older brother and wife, Howard and Janet, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his younger brother Clifton in 2020.
John was born and raised in Lowell, MA where he worked on his Grandfather’s Market Farm as a boy. He subsequently raised his family in Haverhill, MA, and retired in Nottingham, NH. John retired from Raytheon in Tewksbury, MA after 35 years. He then worked 10 years as a Network Administrator for Manchester NH Community College.
John served in the Air Force, including one year in Africa. Later in life John returned to Africa and led several mission trips to Kenya and Nigeria providing computers to students. He was a long-time member of West Church in Haverhill, MA where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was known in the community especially for his compassion and dedication to those around him.
John enjoyed adventure, including fly-fishing, boating and boatbuilding, tending to his fruit trees and vegetable garden, Sunday drives, Joyce’s cooking, sweets, ice cream, and family. He wrote encouraging and thoughtful notes on his grandchildren’s birthday cards and played the board game “Masterpiece” with all his children and grandchildren. His laugh was wonderful.
Friends and family considered John a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be greatly missed.
A family celebration for a life well lived will be held at a later date.
The Cremation Society of NH-Hampton has been entrusted with his arrangements.
