It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Henry Goodman, III, 83, of Troy, NH, on February 8, 2025, with his loving wife Brenda at his side after a brief battle with brain cancer.
On February 16, 1941, John was born to Ruth Estelle (Richardson) Goodman and John Henry Goodman, II, in Washington, DC. John is predeceased by his parents.
John graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1959. John then went to the University of Notre Dame and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating in June of 1963.
John began his career as a specialty chemical engineer at Davis & Geck in Danbury, CT where he was part of the team that invented the synthetic absorbable suture, later moving on the American Cyanamid and then spending the last 33 years of his career, at King Industries Specialty Chemicals of Norwalk, CT, until he retired to New Hampshire in 2013.
John was a Lifetime Member of the Elks Lodge in Danbury, CT. He also enjoyed his ten years as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of Danbury, CT.
Upon their move to New Hampshire, John and Brenda became members of the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, NH.
In John's free time he enjoyed, camping, fishing, reading, woodworking and various other crafts.
Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Brenda (Sherwood) Goodman, his children John Goodman, Michele Voytek (Tommy), Wendy Goodman; his stepchildren Dale Ross, Sean Ross, Tabitha Sherwood, Mitchell Sherwood and Mariah Sherwood; his grandchildren Alyssa Voytek (Sean Brennan), Justin Voytek and Peter Goodman; and his great granddaughter Aurora Brennan. John will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be made in John's memory to Local Food Banks, St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Habitat for Humanity.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 1 PM at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey, NH, with a reception to follow.
