John E. Hemeon

John Ernest "I'm a legend you know!" Hemeon 89, son of Paul and Pauline Hemeon passed away peacefully at his home in Rumney with family by his side on Sept 2, 2026.

He was born January 3, 1937, in Franklin, NH where he grew up attending high school and met his wife, Lorna Durgin. They were married on March 29, 1958. They moved to Rumney, NH and started their family raising 3 girls, Terri (Bo), Lynn, and Brenda.

John was a proud man, serving his country, community, and family. He was a Navy Seabee who worked on construction of a base near the South Pole in Antarctica. In his earlier years John also helped in constructing parts of Interstate 93 in NH. He served as the town of Rumney road agent for many years as well as volunteer firefighter and EMT in Rumney, becoming fire chief for many years.

He owned and operated his own business, John Hemeon general contractor, working numerous jobs for people in Rumney community. He also worked and helped build up the Tenney Mtn ski area in Plymouth, NH where his girls learned and grew up skiing. He was a member of the Rumney Baptist church and loved being outdoors hunting and gardening. He could fix anything himself. He enjoyed being with family and friends (playing skip bo). He and his wife Lorna enjoyed their retirement years snowbirding in Florida and having fun with friends.

John in predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorna, his half-brother, Ernest Elliot, his aunt, Elaine Bennett, and beloved son-in-law, David Poitras.

John is survived by his 3 daughters, Teri (Bo) Svenson, Lynn Sutherland, and Brenda Poitras, his sister-in-law, Ellen Upton, 5 grandchildren: RE-Ann (Robin), Lyndsey Gould, Erika Roberts, Nate Poitras, and Jeremy Poitras along with 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

This legend will be greatly missed by family, friends, and our community.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19 beginning at 1PM at the Rumney Baptist Church: 375 Main St, Rumney, NH 03266. A light reception will immediately follow the church service. The burial will be handled privately at the convenience of family.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH.
