John Jordan 8/31/1943 - 10/04/2026

John Jordan passed away peacefully at his home in Rochester, NH surrounded by his family. It was a lovely, vibrant, autumn day - the kind of day that John would have spent paddling across a lake, or walking through the woods with one of his many beloved dogs.

John was born in Rochester, NH and grew up in Peterborough NH, the son of Herbert Jordan and Margaret Hueber. After graduating high school in Peterborough, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he majored in architecture, which remained a lifelong passion. His early career was spent in Cambridge, MA working for the renowned architectural firm Cambridge 7 on buildings from the Boston Aquarium to early IBM facilities. He met his future wife Katrina Hall in Boston after crashing at a motocross race - showing up to meet her covered in mud. After the birth of his daughter he returned home to Peterborough in 1978, where he built a thriving architectural practice. He and his family moved to Hancock after the birth of his son in 1981. In Hancock he became a committed community member, serving on the planning board, selectboard and volunteer fire department for decades, as well as fiercely championing affordable housing and conservation efforts throughout the region.

John was an intellectual powerhouse, energetic and creative with a bit of a rebellious streak. His stories were the stuff of legend; doing donuts across the Holy Cross campus with his buddy dressed as Jesus, the 12 hours everyone in Peterborough thought he died when he was actually shooting crows at Coll’s egg dump, or “borrowing” his mother’s car and leaving most of its undercarriage on a stone wall in the woods. He was a wealth of knowledge, and nobody could best him at trivia or do a crossword faster than John. He cared about doing things right and never shied away from a challenge - whether it was in architecture, making sure local schools stayed open or completing the Hillsboro Classic with a broken finger.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as three of his siblings, Sandra Jordan, David Jordan and Herbert Jordan. He is survived by his brother Richard Jordan of Harrisville and his children; Casey Jordan of Madbury, NH and Margaree Jordan of Dublin, NH and his grandchildren Maddie, Max, Izzie and Noah.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, October 24th from 2pm-4pm at the Eleanor Briggs Pavilion at the Harris Center, 83 King's Highway, Hancock, NH 03449. Please feel free to join his family in sharing stories and pictures of his life during that time.

He will be deeply missed.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Hampton.
