John Warren Marshall, 90, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, passed away April 3, 2020, of Parkinson's disease.
He was born in Stourbridge, West Midlands, England on January 25, 1930 to Florence Noreen (Nora) and George Marshall. He attended the King Edward VI Grammar School in Stourbridge and then enlisted in the British Army as a L/Cpl in the Royal Signals stationed at Catterick in North Yorkshire. He moved to Canada in 1957 where he met his wife, Maureen Maggiacomo in Toronto, Ontario. They were married in 1959 in Toronto, and after living for a year in England, moved to the United States.
As a young adult he was an avid hiker and mountain climber in the Snowdonia region of North Wales, and later hiked for many years throughout the White Mountains in New Hampshire, where he and Maureen eventually retired to Jefferson, NH and then Lunenburg, VT. He was a nature lover, back-yard bird watcher, Big Band and jazz music enthusiast, and enjoyed camping with Maureen in New Hampshire and Maine. They spent many hours travelling throughout the mountains and seacoast regions of New England. Though John loved northern New England, he continued to hold a special place in his heart for his native England. John always had a twinkle in his eye and was known for his smile and laugh.
John is survived by his wife Maureen; son Brian Marshall and wife Erika of Nashua, NH; daughter Linda Marshall and husband Ted Stedman of West Newbury, MA; grand-daughter Heather Marshall and grandson Jeff Marshall of Milford, NH; grandson Benjamin Stedman of West Newbury, MA; step-grandchildren Molly and Daniel Stedman of Ipswich, MA and Matthew Stedman of Hamilton, MA; sister Gillian Edwards of Harlech, North Wales, UK; sister-in-law Anna-Marie Williams of Duncan, Vancouver Island, BC; brother-in-law Ron Maggiacomo and partner Judy Lacey of Mississauga, Ontario; and eight nieces and nephews living in Canada, the U.S., Spain, and Germany.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date due to the current public health emergency.
