With love and heavy hearts, Sam and I share that our dad, John Pease, passed away peacefully in hospice care surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 5th, at the age of 81.
John was born on March 9, 1944, and raised in Merrimac, MA—a town deeply rooted in his family’s history. The Pease name has long been part of the community and can still be found in the local museum, church, and other cherished landmarks around town. Merrimac will always be a place we hold close, just as it was to him.
Throughout his life, John demonstrated unwavering dedication to both family and community. He served honorably in the Army National Guard for six years, earning distinction as a decorated sharpshooter and combat engineer officer. His commitment to service continued as he later served as President of the Lions Club and the Merrimac Historical Society. Whether through his leadership or acts of kindness, John was always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. His warm smile and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In our dad’s final days, we shared stories and memories with him—holiday celebrations filled with laughter, the joy he found in coaching Little League, his love for music, creating meaningful and fun holiday floats for the annual Merrimac Christmas parades, and the fun we had dancing while he sang and played guitar. John also passed down his carpentry skills to the next generation, a true testament to his craftsmanship and ability to turn any project into something beautiful. We will carry these memories—and his love—with us always.
John is survived by his children, Sam and me, as well as his former wife of 32 years, Sandy, and cherished grandchildren.
Our family is taking time to grieve together and will share plans for a service honoring his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider a donation in his memory to Brookhaven Hospice in New Hampshire. We are forever grateful for the peace and compassion they brought to our dad during his final days. Donations can be made to Brookhaven Hospice, in honor of John, at https://www.brookhavenhospice.com/make_a_donation.php.
