John R. Putnam

John “Put” Richard Putnam, Jr., 64, of Manchester, NH died July 12, 2007 at the Veterans Affairs Nursing Home, VAMC, in Manchester following a period of declining health. He was born in Goffstown, NH the son of the late John R. Putnam, Sr. and Warnita (Murdough) Putnam McLeod. He resided in North Lyndeborough for several years before moving to Manchester in 1985. He was a graduate of New Boston High School and was formerly employed as a back tender for the Monadnock Paper Mill in Bennington. He served in the US Navy as a radioman during the Vietnam War and was a former member of the American Legion Post 79 in Manchester. He was proud of his Native American ancestry including the Sioux and Micmac tribes. He is survived by 4 brothers, Ronald “Buster” Putman, Douglas McLeod and Albert McLeod all of Maine and Edwin Putnam of Hillsborough; 6 sisters, Nada Brown of Mattawamkeag, ME, Sharon Powers of East Millinocket, Maine, Cheryl Smith of Burlington, ME, Mary Wyman of Winn, ME, Lycia Savage of Enfield, ME and Patricia Geary of Pittsfield and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy Mathewson. There are no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
