John J. Saunders, Sr., 70, of Derry and formerly of Nashua died suddenly at home on February 18, 2006. Mr. Saunders was born on October 30, 1935 in Medford, MA the son of James and Anna (Garrity) Saunders. Prior to retirement, he had worked as a pipe fitter for Nashua Corp. for over 20 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing off the coast of New England. Mr. Saunders was a long-standing member of the Polish American Club as well as an active member of the Lafayette Club. He was a dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed deeply by his family and many friends. He is survived by three sons, John "Jack" Saunders, Jr. of Helen, GA, Timothy Saunders of Nashua and Matthew Saunders of Penacook; one daughter, Christine Mafera of Derry; seven grandchildren, Melinda Mafera, Jessica Mafera, Gerald Mafera II, Laura Jean Saunders, Wesley Saunders, Joshua Saunders, and Gregory Saunders; three great grandchildren Colin Mafera, Hannah Mafera, and Austin Fleury; a brother, David Saunders of Nashua; a sister, Anna Mele of Derry; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Saunders and James Saunders. There will be a Memorial Mass on Wednesday, February 22nd at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 26 Crystal Avenue in Derry.
