John Eric Wallace

John Eric Wallace passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Lebanon at Genesis Healthcare Facility. He was born on April 18, 1935 in Stirling, Scotland to Mary Laird Millar and adopted by James and Marion (McDonald) Wallace

He spent his childhood and school days in Queezieburn, Scotland with his family and upon graduating from the local school at 16, he worked for a short time in the nearby coal pits before starting his apprenticeship toward becoming a mechanical engineer.

In early 1955 he had completed his education and enrolled in the British Merchant Navy as an engineer. Also that year he joined an International pen pal club based out of Boston, MA, where he was chosen by a young woman named Betty Haskins, who lived in NH, to become pen pals. Over the course of the next four years his career took him all over the world and into many international ports of call such as Tokyo, Venezuela, Cape Town, South Africa, Lisbon, and many more.

During those years, the pen pal letters turned into a romance and finally, in March of 1960, he sailed into Boston Harbor and they met face to face. They were married May 21, 1960 and settled in Canaan, NH where, for most of their married life, they would reside and raise their four children.

In the next 35 years, Eric had a variety of jobs with local companies such as Thermal Dynamics, Bond Optics, Wall Colmonoy, Dartmouth Printing, Jim's Country Store and also for the local school district. He assisted with the 4-H club in West Canaan when his children were members, participated in local arts & crafts shows and is a member of the Canaan Assembly of God Church.

His hobbies consisted of woodworking, rock tumbling and making jewelry, and anything that was "artsy crafty". He loved using his hands to create. He also liked gardening and "tinkering" around his yard. He loved music and singing and had a wonderful sense of humor.

He was a loving husband, father, grand-father and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Eric is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Haskins) Wallace who passed away in May of this year and his three sisters, Linda Noce of CA, Elizabeth "Betty" Wallace and Anna McCready, both of Scotland. He is survived by his brother, Alex Noce of Cyprus and his wife, Marie; his four children, Melanie Wallace and husband of Manchester, NH, James Wallace of Canaan, NH, Mark Wallace of Grafton, NH and Vicky Marlar of Canaan, NH; and his four grand-children, James Wallace, Jessica Wallace and Thomas Marlar.

ARRANGEMENTS: At this time, there will be no services but the family is planning a Celebration of Life for both John & Betty in the spring of 2021. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen.
