John William Wilkens II

December 8, 1969 — December 25, 2022

Bedford, NH

John William Wilkens II, passed away at home Christmas morning, 2022, following a courageous 5-year battle with colorectal cancer. He was born December 8, 1969, in Normal, Illinois and moved to the Jacksonville, FL area in 1976, a move that instilled in him a permanent love of sun, sand and water.  John graduated from Florida State University in 1992 and began his career in medical sales. He lived in San Diego, CA, Scottsdale, AZ, and Bridgewater, NJ before settling into life in NH with his family in 2014. At that point, NH or "South Canada" as he liked to say, became home. He was happiest at the beach. He loved to travel, his favorite places being Aruba and St. Augustine, FL. John was an avid runner loved sports and listening to music. His smile and magnetic personality lit up the room. He especially loved to share his “dad jokes” with family and friends. John loved and cherished his family more than anything.

John is survived by: his wife, Lisa Hopwood Wilkens, son Jack and daughter Ella of Bedford. His parents, John William (“Bill”) Wilkens and Alice Hansen Wilkens of Ponte Vedra, FL, sister Kirsten Wilkens Combs and her husband Jim Combs, of Charlotte, NC, uncle, Greg Wilkens and his wife, Teresa, and cousins: Justin, Sarah, Eric, and Lindsey. John’s extended surviving family includes mother-in-law, Nancy Hopwood of Bedford, sister-in-law Leslie, niece and nephew Cassandra and Wyatt Hopwood, aunts Deborah Walsh, Joanne Gentile and Mary LaSala, and grandfather-in-law John Gentile.

John’s wishes were to have a Celebration of Life in the Spring/Summer.

If you’re inclined to do something in John’s memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Dana Farber or the American Cancer Society to advance the research dedicated to curing colon cancer.
