Joseph Daniel Crowley Jr.

Our father transitioned to his next journey in life. He succumbed to glioblastoma.

Predeceased by his wife Valerie Webb Crowley, his parents Joseph Daniel Crowley Sr. and Elizabeth Andrea Emerson Crowley, Brother Powel Emerson Crowley.

Surviving siblings, Peter William Crowley of Vero Beach, Florida and Elizabeth (Betsy) Mildred Crowley of California

Surviving children: daughter Bridget Crowley-Brown and husband Brian Brown of Nokomis, Florida. Son Brendan Crowley of Brattleboro, VT. Step-daughter Deborah Ricker and partner Lance Young of Windsor, VT. Step-Son David Ricker and wife Jennifer Ricker of Hinsdale, NH. Grand children Jessika Fisher, Jared Fisher, Albry Klennert, Kiah Crowley, Tony Patterson, Emily Ricker and Katie Ricker. Great grandchildren: Dora Dong, Nancy Klennert. Also surviving are his B-Boys, Buster and Bandit.

Our dad held his family and friends close to his heart. He would do anything for his family and friends.

Joe spent most of his career working at the Book Press in shipping and receiving. He held other jobs too but the biggest joy he had in a job was later in life working at Sonny’s Sunoco as a “petroleum transfer technician.” Those are his words but we all said he pumped gas and gave the best full service all around. He touched many lives while pumping gas and made long lasting friends. He was also known to keep dog biscuits in his pockets for his most favorite customers.

Our father loved all animals wild or domesticated. His heart went all mushy around an animal. When he needed a pick me up he would head to the Monadnock Humane Society and sit in the cat room. Eventually he found his soul cats, Buster and Bandit, AKA The B Boys. You could also find him sitting on his deck watching the birds that he fed. Animals brought him happiness and peace.

People who know Joe Crowley know his passion for stock car racing. Started at an early age watching dirt racing in West Brattleboro, VT. He could be found every Friday night at Saratoga Speedway in NY. If he wasn’t in New York he was at Monadnock Speedway, Claremont Speedway, Bear Ridge, Daytona 500 etc.. He raced a car in the 80’s at Bear Ridge Speedway and later became a flagman with his good friend Michael Griggs. His race family was huge! Everyone knew Joe with his license plate that read RACING.

His granddaughter Katie Ricker sums him up well. She writes: “Last night the universe lost an incredibly special human. Grandpa, there are no words to describe how amazing you were. You had such a positive mind, an incredibly weird yet amazing personality, and the most loving giving spirit. I cannot imagine what life would have been like without you. You had such a weird sense of humor, coming up with the most random jokes, telling random stories and if needed a song and a dance to go along. Some of my greatest memories were spent with you and Grandma. Someone who knew you should consider themselves extremely lucky. There’s no one else like you. I love you and miss you terribly. Until we meet again.”

Please come for a celebration of Joe’s life. Come and tell stories, laugh, have a bite to eat and enjoy the memories. Celebration will take place at the Elks 75 Putney Rd., Brattleboro, VT on November 20, 2021 from 1-5pm.

Donations can be made to the Monadnock Humane Society located at 101 W. Swanzey, NH 03446 or go to their website. Also the Windham County Humane Society 916 W River Rd #9089, Brattleboro, VT 05301.

Wish I could join you on November 20th, but we'll be in Venice, FL. My thoughts are with all of you. Joe and "Pookie" were an integral part of thex"West B gang" and later someone I always looked forward to running into at Monadnock. His racing family will miss him as much as you do.
