Joseph E. Usseglio, 89, died on October 28, 2024, at Concord Hospital in Concord, New Hampshire. He was born on January 25, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the son of Edward and Mary Usseglio (Garvey).
Joe served in the United States Army, entering the service in 1953. He was sent to the Army's Finance School at Fort Benjamin, Indiana where he was trained as a disbursing specialist. He served in various locations stateside, including Fort Drum, NY and the Army base in Boston, Ma. He was released from active duty in 1956, and in 1961 after his 8 year Army commitment was complete he was presented with an Honorable Discharge.
At his time of death, Joe was retired from his career at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. In his early years of retirement, he spent quite a lot of time baby-sitting his grandchildren until he moved to Bennington, NH. He was never at a loss for things to keep him busy in his new setting. He continued to write computer programs, dabble in photography, add to his various collections, make untold improvements to all manner of everyday items, and authored and self-published multiple novels and short stories.
He was known for his generosity, intelligence, beautiful singing voice, sense of humor, and love of animals. He was an honorable son to his widowed mother, a loyal friend, and a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He will be missed always by the people he touched and will live on through the legacy he left.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Lee (from his marriage to his former wife Anne King) and her husband, Michael McIsaac. He also leaves behind his seven grandchildren, Carbon (Carlie), Reagen, Adam, Joseph, Annekka, Britta and Stephen McIsaac, and his cat, Cat.
A memorial lunch will be held on November 17, 2024, at The Root, 93 NH Route 101, Temple, NH. This gathering will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a time for guests to speak at 2:00. Family and friends are invited to attend.
