Josephine (Jo) Buck Hayslip CONCORD- Josephine (Jo) Buck Hayslip, 75, of 17 Amoskeag Rd died at the Hospice House on Tuesday April 19th, 2005 from cancer. Born in Burlington, Vermont, daughter of Willis R. (Junie) Buck and Minerva (Kidder) Buck, she graduated from Burlington High School in 1947 and the University of Vermont on 1951. With a growing family, she moved to Pennsylvania where she taught English and earned a Masters Degree in Education at Temple University. She moved to the Plymouth, NH area with her family and taught in the Ashland Public School and earned an advanced degree in guidance and counseling at Boston University. They moved to Littleton, New Hampshire where Jo was Guidance Director, and then she became a Career Development Consultant at the New Hampshire Department of Education. Her last professional achievement was to complete a Doctoral Program at George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and to join the faculty at Plymouth State College as a counselor educator, retiring in 1994. Subsequent residences include Lakeport, NH and since 1978, Concord, NH. Jo carried her lifelong interest in teaching and career development into her retirement and worked with organizations and agencies in career development training seminars. She was a charter member of the New Hampshire Woman’s Lobby and continued her interest in the lobby’s efforts. She volunteered at the Payson Cancer Care Center in the Joan K.Farrel Cancer Resource Library. Jo enjoyed travel, reading, politics, skiing, talking and listening. She was a tireless advocate for women, children and the disadvantaged. She was a reluctant assistant gardener, but a good sport about it. She was a terrific grandmother. Preceding her in death was her spouse of 53 years, Ellwyn F. Hayslip, who passed on March 19, 2004. Surviving are her two sons; Ellwyn (Skip) Hayslip, Jr of Canterbury, NH and Steven M. Hayslip of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Other family members include Skip’s wife, Sally Fortier Hayslip, grandsons, Ellwyn IV and Graham, Steve’s partner Tracie Grant of Laconia, sister Clara Buck of Washington state, and cousin Barbara Preston Norton of Virginia and special niece Laurie Phillips of Rhode Island. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to CRVNA Hospice House, PO Box 1797, Concord, 03302, or your favorite charity in Jo’s name.
