On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Josetta T. Hayes, loving mother, grandmother and dear friend passed away at the age of 88 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, New Hampshire where she was residing for the past 10 months. She had previously lived for over 40 years in York Harbor, Maine. She was born on November 18, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey, daughter of the late Joseph A. Hayes and Juliet (Cooke) Fahy. She was the last living sibling of four sisters, Lorraine Macirowski, Jean Sharpe and Gloria Gillespie. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1952 and attended Spencer Business College in Jersey City. She worked in New York City as a secretary for the Photo Engravers Union. She volunteered for many organizations including her children’s schools, Saint Christopher’s Parish, Helping Hands and the York Food Pantry.
Josetta was a kind, compassionate, loving and generous woman with amazing courage. She is survived by her five children, Donna and Chris Way of Kittery, Maine, Robert and Lynn Bernstein of Venice, Florida, Susan and Ronald Fyfe, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Joseph and Svatka Bernstein of Osprey, Florida and James Bernstein of Cape Neddick, Maine and her grandchildren Robert, Daniel and Brady Bernstein, Caitlin (Way) Ducharme, Tommy Wellington and Jakub and Adela Piskor and great grandchildren Shelby and Elizabeth Bernstein and Amelia Wellington.
SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Christopher’s Church in York, Maine on March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am for relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to York Community Service Food Pantry in York, Maine.
