Joyce Margaret (Force) Good, 96, resident of Warner, NH, passed away with family by her side at Pine Rock Manor on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
Born in Elgin, IL on February 23, 1921, Joyce was the daughter of Mamie (Poppe) and Hilton Force. She grew up in Saugatuck, MI, graduating from Saugatuck High School in 1939. She continued her education at Western Michigan University and worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Kalamazoo, MI. She married her husband of almost 60 years, the late Walter A. Good, in 1942.
Joyce and Walter raised their family in Bethesda, MD and retired to Port Richey, FL. They were very active in the Academy of Model Aeronautics, traveling the world to compete in model airplane competitions and making many dear friends along the way. She moved to Warner, NH eleven years ago to live near family. She was presented with the Boston Post Cane, honoring the oldest resident of the community, in November of 2016.
Joyce was very active as a volunteer and in her local churches: the Methodist Church in Kensington, MD, Saint Mark's Presbyterian Church in Port Richey, FL and the UU Church in Concord, NH. She jumped into life in New Hampshire, volunteering at the Historical Society and the Indian Museum. She was active in the local quilting and knitting groups, and women's club.
Joyce had a love of life and trying new things. She was very creative and enjoyed learning many fiber crafts: knitting, cross-stitch embroidery, sewing, and quilting. She loved to travel, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles and sing in the choir.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter (2002), nephew Gary and grandson Jeffrey Good. She is survived by her daughter, Ginnie and husband John Warner of Warner, NH; son, Terry and wife Joanna Good of Hillsdale, NJ; grandson, Brian Warner and wife Trudy Singzon of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter, Julie Warner and husband Hugh McGowan of Austin, TX; and great-grandchildren, Colin and Molly McGowan of Austin, TX. Joyce was the adoring aunt to William, Richard, Cindy and Greg Good, and Barb Rininger, Sheryl Thomas and John Fox, and numerous dear grand-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Concord, NH, 274 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301 on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Pine Rock and the Concord VNA for their loving care.
