Obituary

Julia Irene Robinson passed away May 16, 2026 in Keene, New Hampshire. She led a life that was filled with love, curiosity, and kindness. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Julia was born October 7, 1946, in Washington, DC. She was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, along with two sisters and a brother. She was the first in her family to attend college, first going to Elon College and then transferring to Corcoran School of Art, where she cultivated a lifelong love of art.

She moved to Plattsburgh, NY, where she raised two children, and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with an art degree. She was a fixture in the community – working at the Clinton County Historical Society, at special collections of Feinberg library at SUNY Plattsburgh, and having her art exhibited. She followed a passion for poetry to pursue and receive a Master’s degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts.

As her kids got older, she undertook a career pivot and received a degree in library science from SUNY Albany. Julia then worked at Ohio University-Lancaster as the head reference librarian for 25 years. She loved working with students and faculty to help guide them in their research and built a close set of friends in Lancaster.

When she retired, she moved to Keene, NH, to be closer to family. She volunteered at the Keene Public Library and took classes at Keene State College. She loved to visit art museums, read widely, paint with her cat by her side, garden, and spend time with her family and friends.

Julia is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Robinson, her son, Nick Robinson, daughter-in-law, Silpa Kaza, grandson, Kavi Robinson Kaza, and three siblings – Susan Johnson, Robert Hoskinson, and Mary Farmer – as well as her former husband, Thomas Robinson.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire has been entrusted with arrangements. To view an online tribute, leave a message of condolence or for more information please visit www.csnh.com.
