  • June (Heftye, Steele) Waltz, age 94, passed away in North Conway, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph T. Heftye Sr. and Christina (Bunting) Heftye of Lynn, MA.

  • June graduated from Lynn English High School in 1949. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert N. (Butch) Steele. They loved to travel and entertain, spending 56 wonderful years together before his passing in 2005.

    June’s career started at GTE Sylvania in Salem, MA, where she stayed for 17 years. She attended Northeastern University, working towards a Business Management degree with a major in Computer Science. She continued to further her career at various companies in the Computer Science field, working as a program analyst.

    In 1987, June and Butch moved to Glen, NH, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. They owned and operated the Glen Video Store. June worked at Hamel Real Estate and various other real estate companies in Mount Washington Valley. She worked at the Thomas E. Dewhurst III Law Firm in Conway, NH.

    June was a very active, vibrant, well-loved woman in the North Conway community. June was President of the Bartlett Business Association, President of the Business Professional Women’s Association, President of R.S.V.P., and President of The Fryeburg Rotary Club. She was a founding member of The Red Hat Society in the Mt. Washington Valley. She volunteered for many non-profit organizations, such as The Gibson Center, which is where she met Dr. Miles Waltz. They married in 2008 and enjoyed 8 years together before his passing in 2016.

    She is survived by her beloved daughters Roberta Steele-Marotta (Joseph) and Sandra (Haynes) Steele. Grandchildren: Shawn Dwyer (Pam), Michael Dwyer (Kara), Parker Haynes, and Hunter Haynes and 4 Great Grandchildren. Niece Joyce Patterson (Malcolm) also Fiancé companion of four years, John T. Pandora.

    June was predeceased by sister Evelyn (Heftye) Clark, brother Rudolph T. Heftye Jr., son-in-law Robert (Bobby) Haynes, and nephew Richard Clark.

    In June’s own words: “Variety has been the 'spice of life.'” For June, it must be said that she has lived her life to the fullest. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

    The family would like to give a very special Thank You to Hospice Care Nurses Margaret Robertson and Deb Haynes for the wonderful comfort and care they gave June.

    A Celebration of Life will be held in May. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in June’s memory to Visiting Nurse Home Care & Hospice of Carroll County, 1529 White Mountain Hwy, North Conway, NH 03860.
