Karen L. Pendleton, Ph.D., 48, of Greenfield, NH died of complications from a brain tumor on January 17, 2003 at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center. Karen was born on June 26, 1954 in Attleboro, MA the daughter of Harlow and Esther (Hawkins) Pendleton. She graduated from Hobart William Smith College and earned a Doctorate in clinical psychology and human development from Brywn Mar College in Pennsylvania. Prior to her illness, she was a psychologist practicing in Concord and Keene; founder of RISE for Children and Families in Keene; founder and past director of Riverbend Family Counseling Center in Concord; and, one of the founders of Warren Street Family Counseling Associates, Inc. in Concord. She served on the board of directors of the Children's Alliance. She sang with the Mendlesson Club of Philadelphia, with the Philadelphia Symphony, under Eugene Ormandy The New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mater including performances at Carneige Hall. Locally, she sang with the Greenfield Chamber Singers in Greenfield, MA and the choir at St. Andrews Church in Hopkinton, NH. Family members include; her husband, Kirke H. Olson of Henniker; her parents of Leominister, MA; a stepson, Adam Olson of Newmarket, NH; a stepdaughter, Christa McClintock of San Francisco, CA; brother and sister in law, Tom and Susan Pendleton of Reading, CT, niece and nephew Max and Grace as well as numerous uncles and aunts. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, February 1, 1:00, at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield. in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Adult Brain Injury Unit, c/o Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation, One Verney Drive, Greenfield NH 03047.
