Katherine Richards DeLancey

Katherine (Richards) DeLancey, 82, died March 15, 2000 at Cheshire Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Colorado Springs, CO. she was born on March 27, 1917, the daughter of William F. and Leora (Moore) Richards. The family spent their summers at Lake Sunapee, Newport NH . She had been a resident of Keene for more than fifty-two years. Mrs. DeLancey was a 1939 graduate of Sweetbriar College in Virginia. She taught elementary education in Connecticut and at the Elizabeth Morrow School in New Jersey. During WW II she served in Europe with the American Red Cross. She was employed by the National Grange in Keene for over 18 years. She taught Sunday school for 18 years where she directed a number of Christmas and Church School pageants. She was a member of the Altar Guild; the Martha's and Mary's. She was past president of St. Margaret Guild and was an active member of Women of St. James. She was a parishoner of Saint James Episcopal Church in Keene. She was an active parishoner and served on the Vestry. Family members include; her husband of 54 years, Robert L. DeLancey, the proprietor of Bob DeLancey's Mens Store on Main Street in Keene; two daughters, Leora Natan of Wynnewood, PA and Carol Lichmira of Oreland, PA; son, Thomas DeLancey of Louisville, KY; son, Stephen DeLancey deceased in 1975; sister, Margaret R. Chapman of New London, NH and six grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, March 17, 2000 at 2:00 at St. James Episcopal Church in Keene.
