Kathleen L. Zimmermann

Kathleen Linda (Bull) Zimmermann, 73, died peacefully in the care of her children at her home in Manchester, NH on January 18, 2022 after a courageous battle against cholangiocarcinoma. Kathy was born August 13, 1948 in Buffalo, NY. She was the daughter of the late Ralph W. Bull (d. 1998) and the late Ottilie E. (Weber) Bull (d. 1951).

Kathy attended E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (currently the Erie County Medical Center) in Buffalo, NY. She graduated in 1970 as an RN and worked in several hospitals and long-term care facilities over the course of her nursing career. She also worked in the Medical Records Department at the Elliot Hospital before returning to nursing.

Anybody that spent even a few minutes with Kathy learned that the loves of her life were her four amazing and energetic grandchildren: Owen William and Alec Hayes Zimmermann of Washington, DC and Finley James and Elowyn Cate Whitcomb of Goffstown, NH.

Kathy was active in Gethsemane Lutheran Church for many decades and a long-time member of the Mary Martha Unit. She ushered at the Palace Theater in Manchester, NH for 16 years. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, and the Girl Scouts.

Kathy enjoyed chatting with her many close friends, was skilled at engaging in conversation with just about anybody, found any excuse to eat ice cream, was a voracious reader of romance mysteries, aggressively sought deals at thrift stores, and loved any creature with wings, feathers, flippers, fur, or paws. Her collection of Christmas and other seasonal decorations was unique and unmatched. Her green thumb kept plants alive and thriving for decades and she started recycling long before it was cool. She attended more youth sports games and dance recitals than one person should have to endure and there was nowhere else she would have rather been. Above it all, she was happiest spending time with family and would drop anything to be with her four beloved grandchildren.

Kathy was predeceased by her stepmother Jeanne (Warner) Bull of Ocala, FL in 1984, ex-husband Erich Zimmermann of Cape Coral, FL in 2016, and her father-in-law Otto Zimmermann of North Tonawanda, NY in 2018.

Kathy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Erich William Zimmermann and Rebecca (Hayes) Zimmermann of Washington, DC; her daughter and son-in-law Christa Nicole (Zimmermann) Whitcomb and James Whitcomb of Goffstown, NH; her brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Irene A. (Majka) Bull of Weare, NH; and several cousins. She was “Auntie” to one niece, two nephews, four great nieces, one great nephew, and she cherished her extended family in Buffalo.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH from 3-5pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022. In lieu of flowers, Kathy has requested a remembrance to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, or the Visiting Nurse Association of Manchester & Southern New Hampshire.
