Kay M. Anderson

Kay M. (Rivers) Anderson, 86 of Bedford, NH passed away on April 25, 2024 at Fairview Senior Living surrounded by her loving family.   Kay was the beloved wife of thirty six years to the late Richard A. Anderson of Hudson, NH.

Kay was born October 16, 1937 in Orange, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Fred and Frances (Benbow) Rivers.  Kay was raised in Orange, MA, and then resided in Hyannis, MA and Hudson, NH where she raised her family with Dad, finally moving to Bedford, NH after retirement, building her dream in law home at her son and daughter in laws residence.

Kay enjoyed working with people and was a licensed real estate agent during the 1980’s, after which she moved into the banking industry where she was a Loan Officer with the Bank of America until her retirement in 1998.  Upon retirement she worked at a local NH bookstore sharing her affinity for reading with others, developing her own library at home and sharing her books with relatives and friends.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband frequenting the Caribbean Islands over the years with other couples, and later on one of her most memorable trips was to Hawaii with her sisters and a lifelong friend.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at her grandsons’ school in Bedford NH, during their elementary years.  She truly enjoyed helping others, with her grace and kindness and sharing her everlasting smile.   

Kay was a wonderful mother to her four children, she always said that she and Dad had hit four “out of the park”.  Her true happiness was spending time with her children and grandchildren enjoying holidays, trips to the ocean and many joyous family gatherings each and every year.   She created special time with her grandchildren focusing on birthdays, supporting them at their sports, and other special events, always with encouragement and a listening ear, making memories with each of them which they all continue to cherish and share when they are together.

Kay is survived by her immediate family members which includes her daughters, Gayle Towle of Hudson, NH; Judi Lafond of Merrimack, NH; Jill Freson and her husband, Marvin Freson of Tampa, FL; her son, Ted Anderson and daughter-in-law Lisa Anderson of Bedford, NH; nine grandchildren, Morgan Towle of Wakefield, MA;  Matthew Towle of Derry, NH; Kayla (Lafond) Metayer and her husband, Keith of Manchester, NH; James Lafond of Merrimack, NH; Tasha Kay of Smithfield, RI; Nicholas Freson of Manchester, NH; Nolan Anderson of Chicago, IL; Davis and Garret Anderson of Bedford, NH.  Kay is survived by her beloved sisters, Hazel Denehy of Whately, MA; Dorothy Kelley of Gardner, MA; as well as nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Kay will be remembered for her ability to light up a room, enjoying each day with happiness and always being our soft place to “land”.   She was a true treasure and the light in all of our lives, she will be missed dearly by so many who knew her.

SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. 

Immediately following the memorial service there will be a celebration in memory of Kay at 70 Greenmeadow Lane, Bedford NH, hosted by the family, at her son and daughter-in-law’s home.   Please come and share some memories and laughter with all of us

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Home, Health and Hospice Services of Merrimack, NH.
