Kevin Charles Wason of Concord died Friday, June 25, 2021 at home, with his wife by his side. He was born on June 27, 1955 in Bossier City, Louisiana, the son of the late Charles and Patricia (Steadman) Wason.
As a young teen, Kevin attended the Copenhagen International School in Denmark, and later graduated from Greenon High School in Enron, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at Wright State University and his Master's Degree in School Counseling from the University of New Hampshire. Upon graduation, Kevin worked at the Tobey School before becoming a guidance counselor in the Pembroke School system, a position he held for 20 years. He later worked at Manchester Community College as the Disability Services Coordinator until his retirement. In both his professional and personal life, Kevin was passionate about helping others. Kevin felt privileged to lead yoga classes at Concord Hospital's Center for Health Promotion for 20 years, and he found great joy in the connections he made there. Through yoga, he was able to share humor and gratitude, and throughout his life, he spread laughter and loving-kindness.
Kevin adored his grandsons, who affectionately referred to him as "Grandpa with the dogs." Kevin was a great lover of animals, especially dogs, and could be seen walking his dogs, Rainey and PeeWee, for hours every day. Kevin had a broad range of interests. He had a passion for music and loved playing guitar and writing songs that were treasured by his family. Kevin was an avid tennis player and often attended the U.S. Open. Kevin also loved to run; he completed many marathons, including the Boston Marathon. Kevin was a lifelong bicycling enthusiast as well. Prior to his retirement, he regularly bicycled from his home in Penacook to work in Pembroke and Manchester, cycling to conferences as far away as Burlington, VT and Portland ME. After retiring, he sold his car and bicycled exclusively.
Family members include his wife of five years, Claudia Wason; daughter Hanna Royce and husband Todd of Auburn; stepson Brian Bazinet of Concord; and grandsons Noah and Caleb Royce. Siblings are Amy Patterson and husband Ronald of Colebrook, NH; Molly Woodbury and husband Benjamin of Worcester, MA; Charles (Chuck) of Amherst N. H. and wife Kathleen; the late Sharon Wason and husband, the late James Shelton; the late Susan Fetsko and husband, the late Jerome; and the late Sandra MacDonald and husband John. Kevin is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Kevin's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County or to the charity of one's choice.
