Laurel (MacDonald) Dudley, born November 11, 1951, passed away on February 13, 2021, after a brave fight against cancer.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lawrence and her husband, James of Epping, NH; her son, Jeremy and his wife, Kerilin of Gloucester, MA; her sister, Sandy Bowers of Epping, NH; her grandchildren, Cooper, Brooke and Sophie Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Laurie grew up in Everett, MA and graduated Everett High School in 1969. She went to work at Raytheon right out of high school and put herself through college at Northeastern while working full time. Laurie shattered a glass ceiling at Raytheon, becoming the first female Financial Analyst in her division, where she was well known and respected for many years. She retired from Raytheon in 2004 and went to work as the office manager for her nephew, Tom Dwyer's business, TMD Services, in Epping, NH.
Laurie was introduced to Hedding Campground in Epping, NH in 1982 and purchased a cottage soon after. She has since spent every summer there, bringing both her children "home from the hospital" to Hedding. It was her happy place and she was fully involved in the community, serving as a Trustee, as well as the Day Camp Treasurer and as a library volunteer. At Hedding, she was surrounded by extended family, longtime friends and her grandkids and great nieces and nephews running in out of the cottage for popsicles and ice cream sandwiches all summer long. She was a terrific card player, with Canasta being a favorite. She was also a master at Cribbage and won a tournament or two.
Laurie and her sister, Sandy were roommates for the past 30 years. After many Hedding summers, they moved from Reading, MA to their "winter" home in Epping in 2006, to be close to their daughters and grandkids. Laurie continued her community service in Epping. An avid reader and book lover, Laurie served as a Library trustee for the Harvey Mitchell Memorial Library. She was also a member of book clubs, the Friends of the Library, and served as the interim librarian and as a substitute librarian for many years. Laurie loved that job. She enjoyed sharing books and suggestions and getting to know members of the community.
Laurie had an infectious laugh, a huge heart and a giving spirit. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
There will be a celebration of her life this summer at Hedding Campground. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name, to the Hedding Day Camp, 37 Jenness Road, Epping, NH 03042 or Venmo @Hedding-DayCamp.Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, Hampton.
