Lee Arthur Parry passed away to “the never-ending golf course” on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home in Wentworth, NH at the age of 82. One of ten children, he was born on January 12, 1943, to Everett and Gladys Parry of Barnstead, NH. A lifelong resident of New England, Lee spent many years of his life in Contoocook, New Hampshire, where he was locally known for his pea soup, and was often the recipient of leftover ham bones from his friends and neighbors.
Those who knew him could say with absolute certainty that Lee was a helpful man of sarcastic wit, and who, above all, was an incomparable golfer. Golf was more than a game to Lee; it was his life’s passion. A well-known fixture in the New England amateur golf circuit of the 1980s and 90s, Lee played in multiple tournaments and won many awards, including many state-wide Pro-Am Golf Tournaments. Lee’s daughter, Kate, recalls her dad recently being stopped in a Market Basket parking lot by a man who recognized Lee from one of his past tournaments. Commending his skills at length, the stranger remarked that he would never forget the way Lee “chipped the hole for a birdie, and won the tournament.” With a smirk, Lee simply replied, “neither will my opponents.”
Lee took great pride and care in coaching his friends on their golf game. Over the years, Lee not only played golf, but was active in the golfing community. His dedication to the sport could be witnessed in his involvement with Manchester’s, On the Rocks Tournament, where he was a member of the planning committee and served as a chair of the board.
Although golf was a significant part of Lee’s life, he spent time pursuing his other various interests such as classic cars (who could miss him riding around in his yellow T-Bird convertible, “Big Bird”), gardening (particularly vegetables, which he proudly shared with his friends), and carpentry.
Despite his non-sentimental nature, Lee expressed his love for his family through his actions and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He put his carpentry skills to use for his family; building a bridge over his sister’s backyard koi pond, and a classic New England covered bridge on his parent’s property.
He enjoyed spending time with the children in his life, serving as a mentor and passing along his knowledge and skills. He would spend days in the garden with his grandsons, and taught them how to grow vegetables, use power tools, and create things with their hands through woodworking.
Lee is preceded in death by his brothers, Theodore “Rusty”, Howard, and Levi; and sisters, Whanita Sheetz, Charlotte “Tootsie” Lynch, and Charlene Chase.
He is survived by his brothers, Wayne, and Richard; sister Barbara Elliot; sisters-in-law, Molly (Booth), and Dorothy (Nault); and his children, Katherine Browall, and Russell Parry. His legacy also lives on in his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Lee will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at the Red Blazer Restaurant, Highland Room, in Concord, NH. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen. To view Lee's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
