Leo A. Loranger

Leo A. Loranger, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at Villa Crest in Manchester.

He was born April 26, 1916, in Nashua, NH, the son of Aldege and Ida (Tremblay) Loranger. Mr. Loranger was a lifelong resident of the Manchester area.

He attended St George Grammar School and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Loranger was a self-employed master barber and hair stylist and owner of Leo’s Barber Shop which served multiple generations of Manchester’s boys and men over its 49 years in business. Leo was also the Owner & President of L&L Realty with his wife Lela.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army 172nd Field Artillery unit. While in the service, he operated company barber shops in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Loranger was a barber to General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Mr. Loranger was a parishioner of St. Joseph Cathedral, in Manchester.

Family members include his 4 sons, Paul Loranger, of Exeter, NH; David Loranger, of Colorado Springs, CO; Patrick Loranger, of Manchester, NH; Leo A. Loranger, Jr., of Goffstown, NH; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Loranger was predeceased by the great love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Lela L. (Scribner) Loranger, who died on April 11, 2007.

There are no calling hours. Military honors will be held on Monday, February 9th, 10 AM, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster. Highway, Boscawen, NH, 03303, in memory of Mr. Loranger.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Cremation Society of New Hampshire.
