Leonard Shepard Dorsett, age 87, went on to be with his Lord at his residency in Exeter, New Hampshire surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. He was born on July 7, 1936, in York Haven, PA to the late George Chesley Dorsett and Helen Lawrence Walker. Len attended a one-room grade school, learning from lessons taught to the older students enabling him to graduate three years ahead of his time. He would go on to earn a degree in Metallurgical Engineering (specialty metals) and a master’s degree in business administration. He would also serve in the Army Reserves. Because of his advanced education and desire to help and mentor others, he was promoted from positions of superintendent and manager to president of companies that specialized in precision metals. On September 8, 1956, he married Helen Suzanne Kunkel. Together, they had four sons. Len and Sue were faithful followers of The Lord and Jesus Christ, becoming active members of numerous churches they attended throughout their lives together.
Len was a prolific reader, collecting many books, especially ones covering The Civil War period. His passion for woodworking lead him to build many things, among those: rowboats, a sail boat, home furniture, one classical guitar and numerous Appalachian dulcimers. A passion for music early in life lead him to join the marching band as a drummer, playing in high school and college bands. He continued to play with his Lehigh University alma mater band into his early seventies.
Len is predeceased by his beloved wife Suzanne (Sue) Dorsett and one of his sons Matthew David Dorsett. He is survived by his other son George Edward Dorsett of The Villages, FL, sons Michael Thomas Dorsett of South Hadley, MA and Jonathan Leonard Dorsett of Somerville, MA, his brother Lawrence Dorsett and his wife Ann, his nieces Suzanne Shover and Helen Dorsett.
