Louis W. Lay, 100, of Dover died on December 15, 2001 at Riverside Rest Home after a brief illness. Mr. Lay was born on November 11, 1901 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of the late Louis and Jennie (Blair) Lay. He graduated from the University of Michigan, College of Engineering in Ann Arbor and spent most of his life working as an engineer. His work brought him back to Indiana and then to Michigan and Pennsylvania where he helped engineer the Pennsylvania Turnpike. During World War II Mr. Lay worked for the Army Corps of Engineers building army camps and bridges on military bases. After the war he helped construct the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. He then worked as an engineering consultant for Franklin Construction Company in New Jersey and retired in the early 1970. While making his home in Highland Park, New Jersey he was an active member of his church and held several positions including treasurer and deacon. Mr. Lay moved to New Hampshire in 1998 to be close to his daughter. Family members include; one son, John Lay of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; one daughter, Mrs. Rollin (Patricia) Nelson of Madbury; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He had been happily married to his wife of 70 years, Marie (Carroll) Lay who died in 1993. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 2:00 PM at Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Road, Dover.
