Lowthain D. Wagner

Lowthain D. Wagner died peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Maplecrest Living Center in Madison, Maine. She was born Esther Lowthain Daddow in Pottsville, PA on November 16, 1922, daughter of Theodore and Jane (Parmley) Daddow. She graduated from Marion College in Marion, VA with a degree in Music in 1942. She married Michael Wagner of Wellsville, NY on February 12, 1946 in Pottsville, PA. Because of Lt. Col. Wagner’s postings with the United States Air Force, the Wagners lived in many places both in the United States and Europe. They were the parents of three daughters, Linda Lowthain, Dorothy Ann, and Melissa Michelle. Lowthain held a variety of positions over her life, among them mother, elementary school teacher, music teacher an assistant with the New Hampshire Council for the Humanities. They retired to Bow, NH in 1977. Col. Wagner died on March 12, 1989. Mrs. Wagner lived in Concord NH since then. She only moved to Madison in January 2004 to be closer to her daughter Linda. Lowthain enjoyed gardening and was active in the Bow Garden Club, holding several offices over a twenty-year period. She had an inquisitive mind, and had many interests including archaeology and history. She was very talented with needlepoint and knitting, leaving a legacy of beautiful pieces. She was also an accomplished pianist. She is survived by her loving daughters Linda Tully and Melissa Dundis, her grandson Michael Geer, her brother Theodore Daddow and her brother-in-law Joseph Hawkins, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lowthain would prefer, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in her memory to The Bow Garden Club, 23 Hampshire Hills Drive, Bow, NH 03304. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, May 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church, 79 Clinton Street, Concord, NH. Following the service will be the burial.
