Lucienne Marie Dreyfus

Lucienne Dreyfus, 87, passed away peacefully on September 23rd at the Havenwood Heritage Heights retirement community in Concord, New Hampshire after a brief illness. She was born on November 21, 1935 in Manhattan, New York of young French immigrant parents Eugene and Lucille Dreyfus. The family settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she grew up with her older sister Cecile, whom she nicknamed “Diddy” for a lifetime.

While her parents ran a prominent restaurant operation in the city, she and her sister attended St. Chretienne Academy boarding school in Salem, Massachusetts from her early years through her graduation in 1954. Upon graduation she began her religious journey, entering the Monastery of Saint Clare in Boston on her birthday, where she professed her vows and spent a decade.

She chose a life of prayerful solitude, living in several places from the West to the South, before finally returning to New England.  Her last eleven years were spent at Havenwood where she enjoyed the residents, her arts and crafts and playing the game of pool.

Lucienne always shared, “a gentle hug to you and remember we are not getting older, but closer to eternity with God and all who love him,” and she has alas arrived at her divine heavenly destination.

She is survived by her sister Cecile, who resides in Aiken, South Carolina and her nieces Andrea and Carolyn, cousins Jacque, Beatrice, Elizabeth, Richard and Marie-Claire living overseas, and Jean-Marie in Chicago, along with their families. Heartfelt appreciation to the Havenwood staff and dear friends Brenda and Bill, along with Addie, for their friendships and dedicated support through her final months.

A private committal service will be held at the Mt. Calvary Mausoleum Chapel in Manchester, New Hampshire at a future date.
