Lucy Ann Fayle

She welcomed the world into her home, offering warm attention to everyone. Only a mother of seven could offer such expansive kindness, how to give so much love to so many while making it all seem so purely natural, as if she was actually a fountain of such good things. Lucy Ann Fayle of Derry, NH, passed peacefully on July 6, 2018. Her beloved memory shines forth in the countless hearts of those she touched so dearly.
Born in Stoneham, Mass, on May 5, 1934 Lucy Ann was the daughter of Ann (Mooney) and John O'Doherty. Her life was filled with the blessings of a true mother to many: abounding nurturance and deep friendships, strong virtues and a tough resolve. Perhaps her husband of over 50 years put it best when he told his children, "your mother would step out in front of a truck in that road for you...." None of her seven children ever doubted that truth.
Drive her young boys to a distant hockey rink for some insane 4 am icetime? She sat behind that wheel, heater blasting, so many times. Never missed a game. Den mother for a neighborhood scouting group? Of course. Volunteer for any school event to support her children? Always.
As a girl she summered on her aunt's farm in Littleton, NH, thrilling with joy when a new calf was born. Her secret recipe for canning pickled beets from Dad's garden? It was the best, along with her "Garden Special" otherwise known as summer captured inside a wintertime Mason jar. Read a bedtime story? Every time. Make sure her kid's shirts were tucked in and their hair combed right for Sunday mass? Without question. Lucy was a rascal too. As a life-long Sox fan she had a little thing for Ted Williams that made her husband grumble from his chair over the years, but there was really no other man than her Jack. When he passed, and the singer sang "There Goes My Everything" the whole place wept because they knew it was true. "Lu" was a great Boston sports fan carrying on many conversations with her grandchildren regarding Tom Brady's favorite receiver or a Big Papi home run. After her children grew up and moved out she became a kindergarten teacher. She loved being around children. No one ever swindled her at a yard sale. She was the Queen of "Will you take a quarter for this?" And laugh? Lucy Ann had a great cackle that could tickle an entire room. Everyone wanted to get her laughing, and she would, too, 'bout as readily as breathing. You'd just never meet someone so full of kindness, who could empathize with others so well, and make them feel so comfortable in her company. Everyone loved her because she showed love to everyone in such a selfless manner. Lucy Ann Fayle knew how to give love endlessly.
She was predeceased by her brother Duane O'Doherty, and her husband of 50 years John J. Fayle.
She is survived by her brother David O'Doherty, and her children Michael Fayle and wife Jan, Edward Fayle and wife Heidi, John Fayle, Christine Fayle, Lucy Fayle and her partner Dan O'Brien, William Fayle and his wife Kristine, Timothy Fayle, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Friends and family will be invited to a celebration of Lucy's life at a date to be determined in the fall.
