Luraine (Capistran) Leddy, 97, of Manchester, died peacefully on May 16, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Lebanon, NH on August 3, 1926, Luraine was the daughter of the late Raymond and Florence White.
After graduating high school, Luraine enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Program established during World War II and graduated from Notre Dame Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She retired from Catholic Medical Center, where she was the head nurse of Pediatrics, after 37 years of employment.
Luraine enjoyed travel, walks, fishing, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. The family will always have fond memories of Luraine’s baking, especially her whoopie pies and apple pie. Family was everything to Luraine and she will be remembered as a loving and generous mother and grandmother.
Luraine was predeceased by her first husband, Gerard Capistran, in 1984; her second husband, Major Leddy, in 2021; her brother, Francis White; and her sister, Elizabeth Rector.
Family members include three sons, Stephen Capistran and his wife Kathleen of Manchester, Philip Capistran and his wife Leslie of Bedford, and Gerard Capistran and his wife Diane of Homosassa, FL; six grandchildren including Jennifer Warren of Colorado Springs, CO, Christopher Capistran and his wife Courtney of Alexandria, VA, Amy Capistran of Richmond, VA, Max Capistran and his wife Sasha of Brooklyn, NY, Jacob Capistran and his wife Cristina of New York, NY, and Sophie Capistran of Bedford, NH; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin and Logan Warren, and Lauren and Emily Capistran; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, June 4 from 11AM-12PM with a memorial service at 12PM at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH.
Burial will be held at a future date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell, MA.
Luraine’s family would sincerely like to thank the amazing staff of Mt. Carmel Rehab and Nursing Center for their care, kindness, and for treating their mother with dignity and respect.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Carmel, 235 Myrtle Street, Manchester, NH 03104 or a charity of one’s choice.
