Mackay "Kay" McCord Schneider, of Appleton, Wisconsin, died of pancreatic cancer on Saturday, June 12th, in her summer home on Governor's Island near Hampstead, New Hampshire. She was born in Glendale, Ohio on July 2nd 1925. She attended Hillsdale School, now known as Seven Hills, in Cincinnati, and then graduated from the University of Michigan in 1948. She attended floral school in Chicago and started her own business "Flowers by Mackay". She married Ben Ross Schneider, Jr., of Winchester, Massachusetts on 21 May 21st, 1949. She spent most of her years in Appleton, and was active in the life of Lawrence University where her husband was on the faculty. She was a member of the King's Daughters Infant Welfare Circle and the Wednesday Club literary group. Kay had an infectious, festive spirit which she used to bring together generations of extended family and a large circle of friends. She loved to travel and engage people from different cultures and all walks of life. She was a great storyteller and encouraged everyone to tell their own. She had a childlike love of games and fun that made her popular with children of all ages. She extended kindness to all she met. Even near the end, she counted herself fortunate, and remained concerned about the well-being of others. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ben R. Schneider, Jr, daughter Devon Knight of Vancouver, BC, son Ben R Schneider III of Brookline, MA, son Nick Schneider of Lyons, CO, daughter Mackay Tanner of Denver, CO, grandchildren Anders Schneider and Amelia Thelen, Nathan and Emily Schneider, and Catherine Tanner.
