Madeleine (Maddie) Eleanor Pope Hall formerly of Newton, MA; Ossipee, NH; and Marco Island, FL; passed away in NH on March 24 at the age of 92. She was the loving and devoted daughter of Horace Sidney and Gladys Pope. She was cherished by her five children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She grew up in Connecticut, spending summers at the family Farm in Ossipee with her parents, brother, grandparents and great aunt. The Farm continued to be a source of joy, comfort and love throughout her life. She attended Radcliffe College and received her degree in Psychology. She then joined the Navy W.A.V.E.S. and was chosen as a decoder during WWII. While stationed in Washington, DC, she met her husband, Roderic, who predeceased her in 1990 after 45 years of marriage. She worked as a Teacher's Aide in the Newton South High School Library for many years but always took time to volunteer and to help others. Maddie was very active with a tremendous sense of adventure and love of the great outdoors. She was passionate about horses, loved to sail, camp, hike, swim, and so much more. She traveled at every opportunity throughout the US and Canada as well as visiting a number of foreign countries. Her love of nature inspired her to collect rocks, pine cones, and seashells. She loved to play games of all kinds. A woman of faith, she set a strong example by how she lived her life. She was loved by all who knew her. A memorial service will take place at a later date to be announced. Donations may be made in Maddie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Trust, or a charity of your choice.
