Marcia Vivian (Hinkley) Haslam

Marcia Hinkley Haslam died peacefully of natural causes with her family by her side on January 5, 2022, aged 82.
Marcia was born on August 7, 1939 in Portsmouth, NH to Arthur Roland Hinkley and Vivian Smith Hinkley. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1957 and the University of New Hampshire in 1961. At UNH, she was a member of Alpha Zi Delta sorority and met her husband of 62 years, John W. Haslam.

Marcia began her professional career at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, worked at a variety of companies while raising a family, and retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 21 years.

Marcia loved time with family above all. She was a great host who loved family holiday gatherings. She was a thoughtful gift-giver, was kind to all, fun, and loving beyond measure.

Marcia was a voracious reader, player of board games and cards, and had a keen intellect. She was a big sports fan, including keeping a scorebook of Red Sox games as a little girl. Marcia had an impressive baseball card collection. Although she loved New England professional sports teams and sports stars, she was her children's and grandchildren's #1 fan, by far. She loved immensely attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and any other activities they were involved in. Marcia rarely missed a game or event and it pained her greatly to do so. Marcia loved her grandchildren dearly.

Marcia was also a world traveler; she especially loved multiple trips to Scotland and England and the American West. An avid camper, Marcia and John enjoyed family and friend camping trips throughout New England. She enjoyed her decades-long bridge group and more recent poker group friendships. She was also a talented seamstress, knitter, cook, and baker.

Marcia was pre-deceased by her parents and sister, Judith Covey.
Marcia leaves her husband, John W. Haslam, their four children: James (Jim) Haslam (Wendy), Thomas (Tom) Haslam (Marcie), Penny Haslam, Christine Haslam (Michael Inlow), and her beloved grandchildren: John P. Haslam, Andrew J. Haslam, James T. Haslam, Jeremy Cole, Hannah Haslam, John (Jack) R. Haslam, Madeline (Maddie) Inlow, and Callahan (Cal) Inlow. She also leaves countless friends.
Marcia is and will be deeply missed.

At Marcia's request there will be no services. A celebration of her life will take place Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Portsmouth Masonic Temple at 351 Middle Street from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Friends and family are invited. Dress is casual.
