Margaret Lillian (Lanoue) Akey, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026. She was born on October 6, 1936 in St Albans, Vermont and lived a life filled with love, family, adventure and cherished memories.

Margaret was the daughter of Helen (Tatro) Kennett and Maurice Lanoue. She is survived by her brothers, Robert Lanoue and Richard Kennett. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Helene (Kennett) Baker and Colleen Kennett.

Margaret was the beloved wife of Kenneth Akey Jr., who preceded her in death on December 29, 2017. Together they built a loving family that was the center of her life.

She is survived by her three children: Steven (Sally) Akey, Patty (Rifet) Hasanbasic, who passed away on September 23, 2023, and Thomas (Diane) Akey. She also leaves behind 8 cherished grandchildren and 17 treasured great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Margaret was a devoted mother who was always present for her children. She could be found cheering from the sidelines at outdoor sporting events, attending school dances, even volunteering "to keep an eye on us." Her unwavering support, encouragement and love created memories her family will cherish forever.

Margaret worked in the Mahar high school cafeteria for several years before moving to Vernon, Vermont where she and husband, Kenneth, built their forever home in a peaceful neighborhood on several acres of land. They both made a life in their new surroundings and Margaret then took on a new interest working for the Vernon Green Nursing Home where she was instrumental in founding the Alzheimer's unit there.

Margaret had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking on local rivers and hiking through nature, she found great happiness in cooking for her family, gardening and traveling. She embraced life's simple pleasures and shared her many talents and passions with those around her.

Above all, Margaret's greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were a special part of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them, sharing stories with them, celebrating milestones and creating memories that will last for generations. Margaret’s kindness, strength, generosity and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her. Her legacy lives on through the family she devoted her life to and the many lives she touched with her warmth and compassion.
