Margaret E. Wentzell of Kingston, New Hampshire, affectionately known throughout her life as "Toot" to family and friends passed away peacefully on December 8, 2017 with her husband and children by her side. Toot leaves her husband of 49 years, Stanley Wentzell of Kingston, son Bryan Wentzell and wife Anna Fincke of Portland, Maine, and daughter Megan Naso and husband John Naso of Richmond, New Hampshire. Toot was cherished as "Nana" to her four grandchildren, Andrew and Ella Naso, and Eli and Leah Wentzell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a large and extended family.
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1945, Toot was raised in Falmouth, Maine by her parents John and Margaret Willey and graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Psychology and Education. She has lived in Kingston since 1975.
Toot met her husband Stan in eighth grade, which was the beginning of their 60-year romance. She was deeply dedicated to her family and circle of friends, enjoyed boating, birding, traveling, and gatherings with loved ones at the family cottage on the Maine coast. She relished quiet sunny mornings with coffee on the porch at that cottage, or at a remote log cabin on the shore of Indian Pond in the Moosehead region of Maine.
Toot was a passionate advocate for social justice including women's rights, and was committed to bringing about change. She served on the board of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and as Board President of Rockingham County Family Planning.
She was involved in her local community as both an executive committee member and President of the PTA at the schools her children attended. Toot also served on a number of town committees and was a founding member of the Friends of Kingston Open Space. She served as Clerk of the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church in Exeter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 16 at Christ Church, 43 Pine Street, Exeter, NH.
