Marguerite M. Laetsch Wurtz, 99, of Concord, NH, died January 9, 2018.
Marguerite was born to Louise K. and Ernest J, Laetsch in Wil, Switzerland on September 18, 1918, and immigrated to the United States in 1925. She graduated from Englewood Hospital School of Nursing School in Englewood, NJ and worked at Hahneman Hospital in Worcester, MA. She later served our nation in the Army Nurse Corps from 1944 to 1947, then joined the regular Air Force from 1948 until 1952. During WWII she held a prominent role in setting up a military hospital in Paris, operated behind the lines during the Battle of the Bulge, and served as an interpreter due to her fluency in multiple languages.
Marguerite married Robert H. Wurtz in San Francisco, CA, in 1951, and lived throughout the US and Europe while raising her family. She moved to Warner, NH, and particularly loved her role as the school nurse for Kearsarge Regional High School and Simonds Elementary School from 1966 to 1981. She was very active in the Warner Women's Club and other civic organizations there. She retired and later moved to Concord, NH, in 2003. Her last years were spent at Pleasant View Retirement where she played an active role in the resident committee as Treasurer, and participated in all activities and events with her many friends there.
Marguerite loved animals, sewing and needlework, and was an avid crossword puzzler. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor, in spite of being most seriously Swiss. Marguerite had a zest for life and traveled broadly, in her later years she went wherever she could find an Elder Hostel program to participate in.
She leaves a son Steven and a daughter Heidi, and many friends.
Funeral arrangements are private and a Memorial will be held at Pleasant View on January 15. Donations in her memory may be made to http://americanwomenveterans.org.
