Marilou Dickey died March 16, 2024 peacefully at her home in Windham, NH. She was born November 23, 1950 in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of the late Rene Labrecque and Bertha Ebert. She was the wife of William Dickey Jr. and prior to the late Anthony T. Abraham.
She attended Pinkerton Academy and spent many years as an RN working in several nursing homes helping elderly patients near the end of their lives.
While at home, she loved to be outdoors and work in her gardens. Always making her home inside and out a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone. Traveling to the white mountains and enjoying the river, or a ride to the beach and floating in the ocean always made her smile.
Her true passion was her family. Even after a divorce, her best friend was her late husband Anthony, who she cared for over the course of many years when he became sick. Many of the cousins, nieces and nephews were treated like her own children. She was always there for them whether a meal, place to stay or just life advice.
She absolutely loved her children, if you look up the definition of a loving mother you may see her name and picture after it…. Her children, their wellbeing and happiness was her life’s purpose. She had a close bond with her son and his friends from the class of Salem NH High 1995. She opened her home to them as if they were her children. Filling the snack drawer with their favorite treats, letting many of them stay over for days at a time. She provided a safe place for this group to bond and make memories that they will take with them for a lifetime. I can remember many of my friends’ parents thanking her for keeping the children safe and some of them wanting to offer her money because they stayed with us more than their own home at times! In her last few weeks, she asked about each of my friends that were there and laughed at many of the completely ridiculous things we did.
She spent the next part of her years with her daughter and grandchildren James and JoJo sharing laughs, adventures to Florida and the NH mountains. There wasn’t a holiday or weekend that wasn’t filled with laughter, a good meal and sweet dessert with her grandchildren. She was the biggest fan in the stands or on live stream watching her grandsons James play football and Joey wrestle, or her son Steven coach high school football. She would marvel at and showcase her daughter Leah’s artwork and creativity to anyone she ran into. All those she loved, she became their biggest fan and supporter. Her selflessness and sense of family is what will be missed most.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Rene and Robert Labrecque; her sister, Gayle Mangano; and her sons, Richard, Matthew, Michael, and Mark.
She is survived by her son, Steven A. Abraham of Derry, NH; her daughter, Leah M. Abraham of Windham, NH; her sisters, Gayle Lizotte and husband Richard of Merrimack, NH, Lynelle Bartlett of Lancaster, PA, Linda Shumann and husband Paul of Waldoboro, ME, Anna Murphy and husband Jim of Port Orange, FL; her brother, Charles Foster and wife Yvonne of Kingston, NH; her grandchildren, James and Joseph Gibney of Windham, NH; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future to honor Marilou and her sister Gayle Mangano who passed 6 months ago.
In lieu of flowers to please consider making contributions to Amedisys Hospice Care of Londonderry, NH. Her care team of Jenn, Amy, and Heidi truly made our mother’s end comfortable, and we are indebted to their love and kindness shown to her and our family. They do the work of an Angel.
