Marjorie R Mitchell

Marjorie “Marge” R. Mitchell, of Concord, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2023, at the age of 97. Marge was born on December 4, 1926, in Westbrook, Maine. She was the daughter of Hiram B. Martin and Phyllis (Overlock) Martin. In 1952 Marge married Norman Mitchell in Hopkinton, NH. They lived in Concord and had two boys, David and Barry.

At an early age, her parents moved to Beverly, MA to take a job as caretakers at the historic Hale House. Marge loved it there. She said she could see the ocean from her bedroom window. Her mother would make her lunch and she walked to the beach with her friends and spent the entire day.

Marge graduated from Beverly High School and Burdett College. She had various secretarial jobs, the last being Parent Information Center in Concord.

She was a member of Martha’s Circle, The Pierce Brigade, and Eastern Star member for 72 years. Marge was past worthy matron of Priscilla Chapter in Penacook.

Marge had many dear and cherished friends over the years. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. Also, her constant companion, Gigi, her loving cat. The highlight of her day was having a dish of coffee ice cream with coffee syrup every night after dinner and Gigi on her lap.

Marge was predeceased by her husband, Norman, and son, Barry Mitchell.

She is survived by her son, David (Dorothy) Mitchell of Concord, and her grandchildren, David M. (Kim) Mitchell of Concord, Jennifer (Gary) Milbury of Dunbarton, Heather Ineson of Manchester, Michael (Colleen) Mitchell of Bow, Sara Mitchell of Concord, and Philip Mitchell of Manchester. She also leaves several great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Wilma, Mary, Audrey & Becca. They helped her stay in her home where she wanted to be.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 11am, at the Cremation Society of NH, 172 King Street, Boscawen. She will be laid to rest at Millville Cemetery in Concord immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributes may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital Research at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis,  TN, 38105.
