Born in Connecticut and raised in Massachusetts, Mark David Keller’s heart and true home during his adult life was in New Hampshire - a place he affectionately and meaningfully referred to as "The Shire." Mark, 67, of Durham, NH, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with his partner, Kelly, by his side . Though he endured the personal challenges of cancer during the last years of his life, he did so with grace, dignity, and quiet strength.

Mark found deep meaning in friendship, treasuring the loyalty and companionship of those with whom he shared life's milestones, as well as those he met along the way through shared interests and experiences. He especially cherished gathering around a table for hours of thoughtful strategy and conversation over a Eurogame – even if it meant painfully sitting in a chair that was far less comfortable than the company was rewarding. Known to repeat the phrase, “You play good you win,” for Mark the game was never just about winning; it was about connection, intellectual engagement, and the pleasure of spending meaningful time with others he cared about.

He felt most at peace in mind and spirit when hiking a quiet forest trail, backpacking to a high shelter or scenic vista, or simply sitting with a sleeping cat on his lap until his legs ached. It was in those moments that Mark felt most centered and experienced his deepest tranquility.

Above all, Mark was a fiercely genuine and steady heartbeat, an unwavering provider, to his partner of 31 years, Kelly Lee, of Durham New Hampshire, and their cherished daughter, Morgan Signe McKinley Keller, of Denver Colorado. Mark is survived by Kelly and Morgan; his brother, Todd Keller and Todd’s wife Laurie Keller, of Corvallis Oregon; his niece, Amy Travis, of Tilton, New Hampshire; his great-nephews and great-niece, and other extended chosen family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Neil Keller of Thornton, New Hampshire, and his sister, Kimberly Keller Blake of Campton, New Hampshire.

Mark will be remembered for his intelligence, steadfast loyalty, curiosity, integrity, and authenticity. He lives on in the friendships he nurtured, memories shared around the game table, quiet moments felt on a wooded trail or mountain summit, and the daughter whose name he lovingly chose on the day she was born. He will be profoundly and forever missed by Kelly and Morgan, as well as by his family and valued friends.

A gathering in Mark’s honor will be held this fall for all who wish to come together in remembrance. Details will be shared in the coming months. In the meantime, those wishing to honor Mark’s memory are encouraged to take a walk in the woods or gather around a table with friends to savor the laughter, conversation, and connection he valued so deeply.
