Martha A Thoits

Martha Ann Thoits died peacefully on October 10, 2023, at her home from natural causes. She was born in Portland, the daughter of the late Howard Soper. and Vernona (Watson) Soper.   She graduated from Westbrook High School, Gorham State Teachers College where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree and Boston University where she received her Master’s degree in Education.

 

Martha worked for Kearsarge Regional School District as a teacher, reading specialist, vice principal and interim principal at the Simonds Elementary School.  She was a long-time member of the United Church of Warner, and for a time was a trustee at the church.  She held several elected positions in the Town of Warner, member of the Zoning Board, Supervisor of the Checklist, member of the planning board and library trustee.  She also volunteered at the Warrner Fall Foliage Festival and the Warner Historical Society.

 

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 51 years, Charles F. Thoits III, a brother Richard Soper and a sister Mary (Soper) White.  Two nieces Deborah (Wheeler) Wiswell & Deanna (Wheeler) Gibson.

 

She is survived by her loving companion Peter Newman, a sister-in-law Barbara Soper, two daughters, Cynthia Mooers and her husband Jeff of Goffstown and Annette Kontos and her husband Aris of Bow; and a son, Charles F. Thoits IV and his wife KaLea Anne of Contoocook; six grandchildren, Christopher Kontos and his wife Becky Sue, Stephanie Kontos, Natalie Sroda and her husband Cameron Hooper, Elizabeth, and Jamison Bernier, Morrigan Rush and her husband Nate; and several nieces and nephews.    

 

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Raymond, Maine summer of 2024.
