Mary was born on October 31, 1943 in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, to Leo K. Foley and Katherine Ward Foley.

Mary moved to Boston, Massachusetts as a teenager, and eventually became a citizen of the United States. She was an avid reader, loved to cook and eat, and enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales. Mary was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and friend to many. She was a dedicated and hard worker, and over the course of her lifetime she was employed by Gilchrist Company in Boston, MA; Genalco Inc. in Needham, MA; the Tilton Inn and New England Clinical Labs in Tilton, NH; and the Trachy Agency, H&R Block, Pizza Hut, Avon, Peabody Nursing Home and the VFW in Franklin, NH. Mary also volunteered at the Peabody Nursing Home, the Bristol Senior Center, and at the VFW.

Mary was for the most part a private person, but she enjoyed telling stories about her children. Shortly before her passing, she observed that her five children were her "most shining accomplishment".

Mary is survived by her daughter, Renee Barstow, and her husband, Jeff Barstow, of Barrington, RI; son, Michael Butler of Bristol, NH; son, Jon Butler and his wife, Rebecca Blake Butler, of Bethlehem, NH; son, Timothy Butler and his wife, Ellie Baker, of Colac, Victoria, Australia; son, Brian Butler of Franklin, NH; and five grandchildren: Taylor Butler, Erin Barstow, Emma Kenniston, Samuel Butler and Thomas Butler. Her granddaughter Rowan Blake Butler is expected in July. She was also survived by her brother, Leo (Tommy) Foley and his wife, Dianne Foley, of Bucksport, ME, and her sister, Janet Foley Hooper of Back Bay, New Brunswick, Canada. Mary treasured a number of close friendships, including those with Maureen Flynn, Sally Sokul, Valerie Cilley, Samantha Cilley, Libby Robinson, Rachael Porter, Pat Emery and Christopher Joscelyn.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leo K. Foley and Katherine Ward Foley; her brothers, Richard and Ralph Foley; and Janet Foley Hooper's husband Glendon Hooper.
