Mary M. Howarth

Mary Teresa McCabe Howarth (76) of Dover, NH, formerly of Kittery Maine, died on July 7th, 2023 with family by her side. Mary was the eldest of the McCabe clan. She was born in Dover on June 15th, 1947 to Jean and Thomas McCabe. She attended St. Mary’s Academy, St. Thomas High School and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She worked at the UNH library until she met and married the love of her life John Howarth. Together, they raised their two children, Liz and Will and ran a State Farm office in Wallingford Square in Kittery for over two decades.

Mary loved her family and friends. After work, she and John were often found in good company at Pier II enjoying a lively conversation over cocktails.  Hosting a family party with abundant food, great drinks and a lot of laughs was one of her talents and provided her great joy. She was an amazing cook and baker.  Mary loved to shop and always spoiled the children. She was a kind and generous spirit and will be greatly missed by her family.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Liz Napier and her children, Corey and Caley Boylen; her son, Will Howarth and his children, Jalen and Callum; her daughter in law, Christine; her sisters: Margaret (Ray) Michaud and their children, Ryan, Chris and Kelly; Gina Pike, (John) and their children, Justin and Jill; Carol Croteau, (Jeff) and her son Paul; Julie (Justin) and their children, Aislinn and Kyla; her sister in law Jana and daughter, Lauren; and her brother Tom and his children, Tommie and Henry. She was predeceased by her spouse John, her parents, Tom and Jean McCabe and her brother Tim McCabe.

The family would like to thank the Life Care team at the Cornerstone VNA for all the support that they provided to Mary throughout the years which allowed her to live independently.  In addition, the doctors and nurses at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. Special thanks to nieces, Aislinn and Kyla for their caregiving and support of Mary.
